I don’t get sad when I hear about someone’s job being made obsolete by technology
I want every job to be made obsolete by technology
I want AIs to take over the world and run our societies for us
I am 100% serious about this
Assuming that AIs HAVE taken over the world, where do people get their income from?
Who would service the AIs when/if they malfunction? Would it be more AIs or people? What if those AIs malfunctioned?
Who would program the AIs to do their jobs?
What about retail? I work in a shop that sells fabric, sometimes the fabric has flaws in it, at which point we can either cut a new section for the customer or offer a refund, how would AI work in this kind of environment?
While many jobs CAN be replaced by technology, there are a lot that I just don’t see as feasible. And, as mentioned, where would we get our money?
For some people, the job isn’t just about the money, it’s about doing something with their lives that they find meaningful.
Personally, I think that if society was run by AIs, then there would be a population increase (people having sex since they’re no longer working 9-5 and have time to enjoy it), and a decline in education. The government already has trouble with getting kids to stay in school past the compulsory age, without the prospect of a good job (which is already a problem, see the Occupy Movement), I think it would be even harder.
There are many pros and cons in having a society run by AIs.
Wrong! There are only pros.
I’m obviously talking about AIs at a level of sophistication far above what they are now. So:
Yes, other AIs would service the AIs. Humans, compared to what computers are capable of, are deeply stupid animals. So - other AIs would program the AIs, AIs would repair AIs, etc. I reject the idea that the “spark of human creativity” is necessary to perform a mechanical task like finding and repairing a software/hardware bug.
All necessary work would be performed by robots; people who want to take up carpentry (for example) can petition the AIs. If the resources are available, then they are provided the required tools + materials. Under this system, retail would be unnecessary, as would income/money. AIs would just apportion resources to keep everyone at a state of subsistence, and remaining resources would be distributed to maximise overall happiness.
That is, there’d be heuristics to prioritise these resources to support activities that would benefit everyone (eg a sculptor wanting to create a public piece) over activities that would only benefit one person (eg… I dunno, someone wants a pile of candy and a massage).
If the AIs are smart enough to fix themselves, wouldn’t they be smart enough to not want to do manual labor/menial jobs? This whole idea just makes me think of the fictional disaster that was Skynet. How would we get the AIs smart enough to do everything a human could do and more, yet dumb enough to not think they deserve human rights?
